For the past few days, I’ve been riddled with feelings of anxiety. In the midst of this annoying pandemic, watching the numbers of cases increase was really weighing on me. No matter what I did, I couldn't shake it. So I decided to take a step back, and ask myself, “Why are you so anxious?” My answer: “I don’t know, God must be taking me through a storm that He’ll rescue me from in due time.” Looking back, I can confidently say that I wasn’t being completely honest with myself. The reason for my anxiety was not because of covid, nor was it because God was taking me through a storm, but because I didn’t trust Him. I wasn’t believing Him. That’s all it was.
If you know me personally, you’d know that I’ve suffered from anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts in the past. My reasoning as to why I was suffering from these things was always, “I don’t know.” Here’s some wisdom: one of the reasons why the enemy trips us up as many times and for as long as he does is because it works! Resist him, and he will flee from you. Don’t just believe in God (in his existence), but believe God. Believe the promises that He has promised you. His promises are always yes for you. Believe it.
I encourage you, if you are struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or suicidal thoughts, to just give Jesus a genuine try. Open your heart to Him. Cry out to Him. Heed Him, not your anxiety. There is so much power in His name. Call out to Him. “‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation,” (2 Cor. 6:2). Have that right now type of faith. Believe Him. He hears your cries. Trust in Him. I promise you, He will not let you down. He’s faithful like that. #swag
Do you know what the definition of anxiety is? Google tells us that anxiety is, ‘Our natural response to stress. The feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come.’ When our minds are fixated on things of this world, when we walk by sight, and not by faith, of course our natural response to what we see would be stress. Why wouldn't it be? We live in a fallen world. But here’s some more wisdom: when you are solely dependent upon God, when you trust Him fully, when you allow Him to step in and be Lord of your life, when you believe Him, that natural response to your environment, transforms into a supernatural response. That is, peace.
I really cannot make this stuff up. Read the Bible yall. Jesus literally told us in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” All you need is Him. When all you have is Him, all you have becomes all you need. Don’t you know that nothing can keep you from the love of Jesus Christ? NOTHING. So walk around with that confidence. God gave us the ‘authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt us,’ (Luke 10:19). Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? You have the Holy Spirit in you. Act like it. Carry yourself like it. With authority and confidence in GOD. Anxiety pushes us to feel fear or apprehension about what’s to come. But when you're on the winning side, what’s there to fear? You are covered by His blood. What in your future is there to be apprehensive about? Jesus came that you may have life, and life more abundantly. Don't mistake me for saying that because you are a child of the most high God that you will not experience some storms, hardships, and tribulation. But have this hope in you, all things will work together for your good because you love God. Not only that, but He is right in that storm with you. Believe it. Accept Him, believe Him, then trust Him. He will never leave you, nor forsake you.
Holla back.
